Shropshire aviators and aircraft fans helped to raise more than £6,000 at Sherlowe Fly-In and Summer Fair.

Despite wet weather, owners of Sherlowe Airfield, near High Ercall, Telford, were pleased to receive generous donations from visitors, including some who flew in for the day. Visiting aircraft paid no landing fees, but were asked instead for a donation for our hospice.

The day was a celebration of the opening of the 700-metre grass airstrip, and attractions included vintage aircraft and vehicles.

Coordinator Sue Hawkridge said: “The rainy weather meant that some aircraft who were hoping to come weren’t able to visit. However, we refused to let our spirits be dampened and still enjoyed a lovely day, where we were delighted to raise over £6,000. Thank you to neighbours and the local aircraft community who supported us.”

Hope House fundraiser Dawn Ball said: “We were very excited to see the return of the fly-in and were pleased that the event managed to go ahead despite rain. Thanks to Bob and Jill Pooler, coordinator Sue Hawkridge, and all the volunteers and visitors on the day for raising an incredible £6,374.

“The money made will ensure that Hope House can continue to deliver vital services to families in the area who need us.

“Owners Bob and Jill have been so generous with their time and effort. We are very grateful to them, and look forward to working with them again in the future.”
