A team of 29 Oswestry work colleagues are hoping that luck is on their side when they take on the 13-mile Oswald’s Trail on Friday the 13th of September.

The team from Oswestry-based dental plan business Practice Plan, will be stepping out of the office to take on the picturesque but hilly trail to raise money to help care for families who come to Hope House children’s hospice.

The Wesleyan Walk for Angels challenge is part of a larger day of fundraising across the Wesleyan Financial Services group which Practice Plan is part of. Together, nearly 200 staff will be participating in walks raising money for a variety of charities which support those affected by child loss, including Hope House.

Practice Plan staff have supported the charity for many years, and have taken part in volunteer days at Hope House hospice.

On a recent visit to the hospice, Practice Plan videographer, Fern Jackson, was pleased to see that a bench she painted on a previous volunteering day was still looking bright and colourful.

She explained: “At Practice Plan, we have focused our fundraising on Hope House, as two of our colleagues have been supported by the hospice in the past. It’s a wonderful local charity that is there for families when they need them the most.

“We’ve visited the hospice on volunteer days and taken part in the Eat Cake campaigns. We wanted to carry on this support by walking for Hope House, and hope to raise £1,500.”

Wesleyan Community and Citizenship Manager Jacob Ayre said: “We’re very happy to see that around 200 staff from across the Wesleyan group will be doing a fundraising walk. There’s a 15-mile Birmingham city walk as well as the Oswald’s Trail one. As a company we’re proud to support a variety of charities which have supported our colleagues through child loss, including Hope House children’s hospice, which is a charity very close to our hearts.”

Fundraiser, Vicky Bradbeer, thanked Practice Plan and the Wesleyan group for their continued support.

She said: “Practice Plan and Wesleyan have supported Hope House for more than a decade and have raised over £10,000. We wish all the walkers the best of luck, whether they’re taking on the Oswestry countryside or Birmingham canal-side walks. Support from businesses is a crucial part of fundraising which allows our expert teams to care for local children with life-threatening conditions and their families. Thank you!”
