A student from Glyndŵr University is reaping the benefits of volunteering at our Chester shop.

Anush Thallada, 28, originally from Telangna, Southern India is studying her Masters in Business Administration whilst also giving up her time at the Frodsham Street store.

She began her volunteering as part of her studies and despite completing the two month placement has decided to stay on, giving one to three mornings of her week to help develop her skills.

Great experience

“It’s such a different experience,” said Anusha.

She continued: “I have learned many skills, things such as communication, dealing with customers, networking and made friends with the other staff too.

“The training I have had off the manager, Rebecca has been great and she has taught me so much.

“Knowing that I am helping the children and families is also very rewarding.”

Anusha has grown in confidence and skills

Volunteer appeal

We are appealing for more student volunteers like Anusha to come forward over the summer break at our stores throughout Cheshire, North Wales and Shropshire, and also when returning to the area to resume their studies.

Chester shop manager, Rebecca Hemmings said: “We love having student volunteers and welcome contact from universities or colleges, as well as individuals.

“It can be so beneficial to young people who are looking to gain confidence and improve their skills in the retail sector. We provide training in many aspects of retail such as stock sorting and rotation, till operating and of course good customer service.

“Anusha is wonderful to have at our store and a real asset to the team.”
